How to become a Worksite Leader

Worksite Leaders (WSLs) are elected by union members at their worksites. They are your first line of connection between the campus and the union office.

Important: The union office sends official guidance and timelines to every member each year. This page is an overview of the process.
Election timeline

Nominations open during the first week back for the school year. Members may self-nominate or nominate another member (with their permission).

How it works
  1. Submit a nomination during the first week back for the school year.
  2. Turn in the nomination form to the union office.
  3. Ballots are returned to the worksite and members vote.
  4. Results are finalized for the year, and Worksite Leaders begin serving.
How many Worksite Leaders does each worksite have?

The number of Worksite Leader positions at each worksite is determined by the number of union members at that worksite.

Election outcomes
Elected by acclamation If there are fewer nominations than available positions, nominees are elected by acclamation.
Election held If there are more nominees than available positions, the worksite holds an election.
Runs annually All Worksite Leaders must run each year. WSL positions are not permanent appointments.
Mid-year openings

If there are open Worksite Leader positions at a worksite and a member is interested, the member may be appointed for the year. If you are interested in being a Worksite Leader mid-year, please contact the union office.
